Bats show up in Baltimore

The Yankees came out hacking at pitches. The heated up Derek Jeter lead off and the slumping Brett Gardner batted 9th. Every starter for the Yankees scored a run and every single one exept Nick Swisher got a hit. Alex Rodriguez started the scoreing game with a two run rbi double in the first and then scored on a single. So quickly the Orioles were down 3-0. The Yankees are the only team in  baseball to not have had a 4 run inning. They are one of the only teams to have a 7 run inning. Russel Martin made it 6-0 with a 3 run home run in the 6th

Last night the Yankees played the 2nd game of a 3 game series against the Baltimore Orioles. After a rain out Friday night, the two teams were ready to play ball, and the Yankees showed up to play but the Orioles didnt. The Yankees as a team hit 5 home runs and scored 15 runs. CC Sabathia got his first win of the season after going 8 innings allowing 3 runs on 6 hits 1 walk and 7 strikeouts.

Mark Teixeira comes up big for Yankees

Freddy Garcia #36 Of The New York Yankees LooksYesterday the Yankees played the 2nd game of three against the Rangers. In the first game the Yankees lost 5-3 as they made a late rally but it was not enough. The Yankees, looking to seak vengence on the Rangers sent Freddy Garcia (left) to the hill in his first start as a Yankee. He pitched well going 6 innings allowing 2 hits giveing up 0 runs, 1 walk, 1 strikeout and all on 84 pitches. Now thats pretty good if you ask me. They Yankees continue to show off their bullpin as they pitched Chamberlin, Soriano, and Rivera who in the end picked up his 6th save of the year. The first game of this series fell on Jackie Robinson day and the last player ever that is allpowed to wear the number 42 in Mariono Rivera.  Mariano is honnored to be the last person to wear the number and he hopes he dosnt screw it up.

In the first inning the Yankees jumped all over the Rangers as Mark Teixeira hit a two run opposite feild home run. The slow starter isn't so slow anymore. Then in the3rd Teixeira hit a sac fly and accounted for 4 of the 5 runs scored in the game as hit scored on a Robinson Cano home run in the 8th to close the game.

Walk off to first in A.L East

Last week the Yankees swept the Baltimore Orioles to take control of first place in the A.L East. The first game got rained out the it was a short two game series. The Yankees are playing well as they lead the majors with most home runs by one team so far.

Game 2
The Orioles have a good young catcher as he was tested in the first inning as he threw out the quick Brett Gardner by 2 feet, the 2nd baseman was a foot or so off of second base. Alex Rodriguez still put up 3 runs in the inning on a three run blast to right field. The Yankees won 7-4

Game 3.
The Yankees sent the struggling Phil Hughes to the mound as he allowed 5 runs and was then put on the DL for dead arm. The Yankees were down 5-1 and ended up battling back ansd winning in 10 innings 6-5 on a Nick Swisher sac fly to right field.

Yankees Domniate Red Sox

The Yankees domninated the Red Sox 9-4 today in Fenway. The Yankees had their bats swinging as they crushed 4 home runs. The bottom three for the Yankees; Granderson, Chavez, and Martin produced seven of the nine runs. Eric Chavez was makeing his Yankee deput and went 3-5 two doubles, a single and an rbi, Russel Martin went 2-4 with 2 home runs and 4 RBI's and 2 runs scored. Granderson went 1-3 two walks a home run 1 rbi 2 runs scored. So far the series is split and the rubber game is tomorrow night as C.C Sabathia goes agains Josh Becket.

Sox get first win off the Yanks

Friday the 0-6 Boston Red Sox were at home for the first time this year against the Yankees. The Yankees had Phil Hughes who is turning out to be a major question in the rotation for the Yankees. Hughes only lasted 2.0 innings giveing up 6 runs as the Red Sox batted over .300 as a team. Boston before was batting under two and were fired up to play in Fenway.

Yankees continue to dominate the Twins

Monday the Yankees played the Twins in the first game of the three game series. In the past the Yankees have beat the Twins in every game but 2. The last time the Twins beat the Yankees was when Kubel hit a 9th inning grand slam off of Mariano Rivera. It did not happen last night as the Yankees win 4-3. The Yankees continue to crush the ball hitting two, two run home runs in the first two innings. Alex Rodriguez hit the first one into the seats in left and Jorge Posada hit one to rows back in right field. The Yankees have gotten production at the plate from everyone except the first two batters, Brett Gardner and Derek Jeter. Derek Jeter says he is still working on his swing and he hit the ball hard but right at people. Brett Gardner is hitting the balls well but his hits haven’t fallen in to play. Mark Teixeira had a chance to join Mark McGwire and Willie Mays in the small club of people who have it a home run in their first four games. Teixeira did not hit the home run but Nelson Cruz did.
The Yankees threw Ivan Nova, Chamberlin, Soriano, and Rivera. Ivan Nova gave the Yanks a little surprise as he goes 6.0 innings 3 strikeouts 2 walks 5 hits 3 runs and an ERA of 3. Mariano Rivera recorded his 3rd save this season.
In the second game of the series the Twins bounced back to beat the Yanks after they killed Soriano.

Jorge Posada's two home runs arn't enough for the Yankees

The Tigers beat the Yankees today 10-7. It was a home run contest between the two teams with Detroit pulling it out over New York. The big man in the Bronx was Jorge Posada as he smashed two home runs over the right field fence for 3 RBI's. The most hated man in the Bronx is Phil Hughes as he goes 4.0 innings giveing up 5 runs. Miguel Cabrera (left) hits two home runs and a two run shot in the first inning off the Yankees right hander.

Mark Teixeira goes deep for his third of the season and he is off to a fast start with a home run in all 3 games, and Jorge Posada goes deep twice in the game to give him his first RBI's of the year.

Yankees score 10 in win over Detroit

Today the Yankees beat the Detroit Tigers 10-6. It was warmer then Thursdays game but still cold. The Yankees had their worst pitcher in history literally on the mound. A.J Burnett (right) is the first pitcher in New York Yankee history to have 15 losses and an ERA over 5. But that didn't stop him from picking up his first win of the 2011 season. Burnett went 5.0 innings 3 runs 6 strikeouts 5 hits 1 wild pitch and threw 86 pitches. His opponent Brad Penny (left) went 4.1 innings 7 hits 8 runs 4 walks and 3 strikeouts and 89 pitches as the Yankees jump all over him. They scored 3 runs in the first inning after a single, walk, rbi double, rbi single, and a sac fly. After the 2nd inning the Yankees lead 6-0 and never looked back. Mark Teixeira hit another 3 run home run in the 2nd he has had 7 years with 100+ RBI's and Russel Martin hit his first home run as a Yankee and it was a 3-run bomb to left center take a 9-3 lead.

Alex Rodriguez went yard on a guy making his major league debut. He was the guys first batter. Everybody in the Yankees lineup except Nick Swisher had a hit but he contributed to the 10 runs with a sac fly that scored Rodriguez in the first inning.

The reporters sat down with Jorge Posada to talk about with his future with the Yankees. He said that it depends on  things," if I stay healthy, If I produce from the DH role." "I am turning 40 this year and it is the Yankees decision to keep me or let me go."

Rodriguez is in his 8th season with the Yankees as he is 36 years old and has had 13 season with 100+ RBI's and has no intention of going anywhere else.

Yankees open up with a win behind Mark Teixeira and Curtis Granderson

The Yankees opened the new year at home with a win over the Detroit Tigers. After an unusually warm spring the two teams travel to the Bronx to play in 42 degree weather, plus the rain. But that didn't stop the Yankees from giving manager Joe Giraridi is first opening day win as the Yankee skipper. This year marks 17 strait years that Jorge Posada, Mariano Rivera, and Derek Jeter (right) have opened up a season together. The Yankees lineup looked like this.

1. Brett Gardner-LF
2. Derek Jeter-SS
3. Mark Teixeira-1B
4. Alex Rodriguez-3B
5. Robinson Cano-2B
6. Nick Swisher-RF
7. Jorge Posada-DH
8. Curtin Granderson-CF
9. Russel Martin-C

Every person in the Yankees infield has won a gold glove and their outfield is the same as last years starters witch is the first time that the same outfeild has started two years together since the 67-68 seasons, and the Yankees last lost an opening day game at home was 1982. The Yankees sent C.C Sabathia agaist Justin Verlander of Detroit. C.C went 6.0 innings 7k 3walks 3 runs 6 hits and an era of 3. Verlander went 6.0 innings 7k 4 walks 3 hits 3 runs and an era of 3. But Dertoits main question stood true, how do we get from the starters to the bullpin. Detroits bull pin went 3.0 innings 0k 2 walks 2 hits 3 runs and the Yankees bull pin went 3 innings 3k 0 walks 0 hits 0 runs and threw only 39 pitches opposed to 41. C. C threw 107 pitches and Verlander threw 113 pitches. Another major factor to help the Yankees was Curtis Granderson. He had 7 catches and 3 unbelievable catches, one diving, one full sprint accross his body and another catch looking like Willie Mays.

In the end the Yankees won 6-3 behind two home runs by Curtis Granderson-solo (also player of the game) and Mark Teixeira-3 run shot to right field. Granderson went 1-3 with one rbi and Teixeira went 1-2 with a 3- run homerun and a walk.

Yankees got tallent

People say that the Yankees infield is old, well they are half right. In fact the Yankees infield is young with Ramiro Pena, Eduardo Nunez, Kevin Russo, and Reegie Corona the Yankeees have young talent. The games in Tampa that I saw, two of them had Brett Gardner, Curtis Granderson, and Nick Swisher and the young infield and they were amazing. Other teams like the Seattle Mariners want the infield and are willing to trade Felix Hurnades, but i do not know if that is curtain

Spring Training Updates

See full size imageFriday, March 4th the New York Yankees battled the Boston Red Sox. Even though it was spring training the competitive nature of the two teams was outstanding. The Red Sox sent their talented right hander Clay Buchholz (Left). The Yankees sent Bartolo Colon a right hander (right) he pitched well and was in a pitchers dual with Buchholz threw 6 innings when the Red Sox scored to take a 1-0 lead. The Yankees tied it in the bottom half of the 6th on a Robinson Cano double to bring in Mark Texeira. The Red Sox ended up winning 4-2.

Saturday, March 5th the Yankees hosted the Washington Nationals. The Yankees sent C.C Sabathia to the hill. Sabathia did not pitch well allowing 5 runs through 3 innings of work. The Nats. ended up taking a 7-0 lead of the the Yankees in the 5th. New York had an 8 run bottom of the 5th that took the lead. They ended up losing 10-8.

Monday, March 7th. The Yankees hosted the Philadelphia Phillies, the Yankees jumped out to a 7-0 lead behind the beautiful work of A.J Burnett (left). The Yankees scored on a three run home run by Edwdardo Nunez, a 2 run home run  by Curtis Granderson and a few hits along the way. I have to say this I got a chance to talk a bit with Nick Swisher before he took batting practice and he is one of the nicest guys you will ever meet. He loves being a Yankee and will do anything for the fans exept sign autographs. If you ask him to pose for a picture or take a picture with you he will do it imeditatly.

American League East is back to American League Beast.

The American league east is going to be the hardest division. All of the teams had a strong off-season.

Boston-got huge deals with Carl Crawford and Adrian Gonzalez. If they stay away from the injury bug they will be the team to beat.

Tampa-lost everybody, needs to play well and have good pitching if they want to win.

New York-got young pitchers and got the big deal getting Rafael Soriano.

Baltimore-got some big names and got a new manager who finished the year over 500. witch brings hope back to Baltimore.

Toranto- the young guys are stepping up so far, their new manager is happy with the way the team is looking so far.

Yankees First Ppring Training Game

Today the Yankees played the Phillies at Legends Field, now Stienbrenner Field in Tampa, FL. The Yankees lost 5-4 but it was a good first game. There are a few notes on the players.

Alex Rodriguez is looking great. His hip is no longer bothering him, he lined a sharp double that looked like the old him.

Joba Chamberlin got a new delivery. He is okay not having a definite job in the bullpen. He has worked out in the off-season to build up his upper body.

Francisco Cevelli is looking great. He is the favored to win the catching job. He said he got tired last year and that is why he did not play as well towards the end of the season.

Joe Girardi is pleased with the pitching, and his happy because the minor leagues are filled with good catchers that could do well in the pros.

Tampa,FL

February 22, 2011-The Yankee camp is in full swing. The Yankees are looking good so far but we will see how good they are in their first game this Saturday against the Phillies. The game is at Stienbrenner Field in Tampa. The first pitch is at 1:30.

Positive News:

Robinson Cano worked out 6 days a week during the off-season. Even with the fact that he showed up late to camp, Cano looks ready to have a repeat season.

Alex Rodrigues lost 7 lbs in the off-season and hopes to put up better numbers

Derek Jeter hopes to have a better year after last season. Last year he had all career lows. he has met with the hitting coach, Kevin Long, about three weeks earlier than the first day of spring training to work on his swing.

Francisco Cervelli met with team mate Robinson Cano, Cano helped Cervelli with off-season training. Cano pushed Cevelli to win the competition as back up catcher,(Cervelli probably will do most of the catching)

The Yankees Universe called last season a complete fail, The Yankees seem hungry to to better. My opinion and I am a member of the Yankees Universe, I would not call last year a fail, there were some highs and lows. The pitching rotation last year was not good.....at all. The bats went quiet as the season wore on and that effected them in the playoffs.

Cliff Lee.......all I can say is its his decision the Yankees GM (Brian Cashman) should have gone after the other free agents after Lee said he would not announce his decision till December.

Bad Notes

Yankees prized left pitcher Manny Banuelos and right hander Dellin Betances will be headed for Double-A Trenton at the end of Spring Training.

Bartolo Colon, showed up to camp 25lbs overweight, his dreams to pitch in the major league will not come true this year unless he losses the weight.

To close some good news. C.C Sabathia has a third year opt-out of his contract. He said he was not going to opt-out and he was going to stay were he is in New York.

A-rod jokes pulls a joke on himself

Alex Rodriguez sits down with reporters Monday at his annual spring training press conference. Alex Rodriguez hopes to have a better year numbers wise as he finished 2010 batting .270-30 hr-125 rbi's-.341 obs-.506 slg. he took the same place were he was questioned about steroids and his hip surgery. Alex opened his press conference he says, "did anyone watch the Superbowl."
During the Superbowl there was a shot of him being fed popcorn by his girlfriend: Cameron Diaz,(below)

In Other news he has trimmed down over the offseason and has found a new sense of ease. Rodiguez has gotten a clean bill of health from Dr. Marc, the guy who preformed his hip surgery. Rodgiguez issued this statement, "This is as healthy as I've felt," "I have a good winter behind me of real work, probably my first since '07, '08 season.

Other Camp News
Mariano Rivera is expected to throw his first bullpen Wednesday or Thursday.

Left-handed reliever Boone Logan signed autographs as a kind of apology after one of this throws sailed into the crowd and hit a little girl during morning long toss with the other pitchers.

A.L East predictions for 2011

Last year the Tampa Bay Rays won the AL east over the Yankees by 1 game. This is how the season played out in 2010.

Rays      96-66    .593   -

Yankees 95-67   .586   1

Red Sox 86-73   .549   7

Blue Jays 85-77 .525   11

 Orioles    66-96 .407   30

With the Rays losing Carl Crawford, Carlos Pena, and others, I see the Rays struggleing this year. The Red Sox are the favored team to win the division with Dustin Pedroia, David Ortiz and their new sluggers, Carl Crawford and Adrian Gonzalez. If the Red Sox are not plagued with injury again as they were last year they will be hard to beat. I see the Yankees finishing in 2nd. if they have a good rotation and their bats come alive again they could posibly beat the Red Sox and win the division. Here is my pre-season prediction.

Boston    98-64
New York 95-67
Tampa       87-72
Baltimore   85-77
Toranto     84-78

The Yankees Rotation

Last year the Yankees starting rotation was no at the level people thought it should be at. With the loss of Andy Pettitte in the regular season left the rotation crippled and now with his retirement the Yankees need a bounce back year from A.J. Burnett (below) who struggled last season. With C.C. Sabathia leading the starters with 21 wins, then Phil Hughes with 18 wins. Last year A.J. Burnett was 10-15 with a 5.26 era. The Yankees signed him to a $16,500,000 contract, so they expect him to produce. A.J. Burnett only had this to say, "I worked out my issues over the summer and hope to have a better year."

A.J. Burnett during pitching session in Tampa,FL

DH/C and now FB?

Jorge Posada (right), the long time catcher for the Yankees and this year mostly a DH and part time catcher and according to sources now a First baseman. Manager Joe Girardi (left) had Posada working at first base durring infield. Jorge had this only to say, "I'm not comfortable, but I'll do it."

Spring Training News for the Yankees

The Yankees hold first day of practice and the lone infielder, Robinson Cano (left) is unable to be found. He mixed up the dates. Cano reported to camp a day late and had this to say "I don't like to be late" "You guys (referring to the team) know I'm always on time. I messed up."

Last year the 28-year old hit .319 with 29 home runs in he "breakout year." He capped it off by winning his first ever gold glove. He arrives in spring training hopeing to have the same kind of year.

In Other News

C.C. Sabathia (captain crunch) showed up for spring training after losing 25 lbs. he stopped eating a box of captain crunch cereal every day. He said this to reporters, "I still have them in my house, I just stopped eating them."

According to Marc Carig of The Star-Ledger, Derek Jeter spoke with reporters for about 20 min, touching a range of topics, like the teams status. He said "We have not changed dispite the Red Sox being favored to win the pennant."

Yankees pre-season

In 2010 the Yankees finished 2nd in the AL East and lost to the Texas Rangers in the ALCS. The Yankees did not have the best off season, spending all their time on Cliff Lee that in December decided to sign back with Phillies and join there monster rotation. Another one of their main prospects was the Rays Carl Crawford signed with the Boston Red Sox which are expected to win the division. The biggest deal that has happened,(in my mind) was getting Rafael Soriano from the Rays. He finished last season with 45 saves and is probably going to take Mariano's place as the closer in a year or so. The Yankees moved Jorge Posada to the DH role but he is still listed as a catcher.
